November/December 2023 Newsletter

2023 saw the Corona Art Association celebrating its 60th year as an independent nonprofit organization. Known then as the Corona Guild of the Riverside Arts Association, it formally separated from RAA in 1963 with a small group of 17 artists from Corona, Norco, and surrounding areas.


Our Diamond Anniversary Celebration included:

  • Redesign of our official CAA logo.

  • A design contest for our 60th Anniversary T-Shirts.

  • Member-created 60th Anniversary Commemorative 2023 Calendar.

  • Redecorating of the Gallery in the Historic Civic Center.

  • The Dominick Frascella Memorial Art Show in February.

  • Grand Re-Opening Ceremony with the Corona Chamber of Commerce and local dignitaries.

  • Being awarded Non-Profit of the Year by the Chamber and attending their annual Gala.

  • Maxine Piester Memorial Fine Art Fair.

  • 2023 Founder's Day Diamond Jubilee Beaux Arts Masquerade Ball on October 28th.


In addition, CAA Board and General Members:

  • Represented CAA at numerous civic functions, including Friends of the Library's Ladders and Linguini; Lake Norconian Foundation Gala; Corona Rotary Club's Lobsterfest; Circle City Rotary Club's Fire and Ice; All of the City's Summer Street Fairs, Independence Day Parade, Halloweekend, Historic Civic Center 100th Anniversary events, and the Holiday Tree Lighting; Heritage Park Garden Club Sale; Day of the Child; YMCA Healthy Kids Day; Pencils and Dreams Gala; Corona Historical Society HCC tour; and various Woman's Improvement Club events.

  • Supported numerous local businesses with our Dine-Out Fundraisers.

  • Awarded $1000 in scholarships to study visual arts in college.

  • Served hundreds of children with free art classes supported by the Stephan Center and the Reed Foundation for the Arts.

  • Offered dozens of adult and family oriented art classes and workshops including painting, mosaic, stained glass, paper-crafting, and more.

  • Held three "boutiques" to showcase our members smaller artwork and crafts: Spring, Fall-O-Ween, and Christmas & Holiday.

  • Created 100 framed and embellished Holiday Cards for the residents of Peppermint Ridge.

Congratulations Artist of the Year 2023: Janet Griffith


Longtime CAA member, Janet Griffith, has once again earned Artist of the Year!

CAA Artists earn points from entering and placing in our bimonthly art shows. At the end of the year, the CAA artist who has earned the most points is awarded "Artist of the Year". We celebrate their accomplishment with a special reception, their name added to our perpetual plaque, and a solo art show.

Art Show Themes and Schedule for 2024:

The members voted at the December General Meeting on which art show themes they wanted to see in 2024. The top 6 were:

  • Pets

  • Botanicals

  • World of Color

  • Open Theme

  • Dreamscapes

  • Nature


Our bimonthly art shows occur in odd-numbered months (January, March, May, July, September, and November). Take-In/Take-Out is held the weekend after the General Meeting.

"Members-Only" Corner:

It's time to renew your membership for 2024!

Please renew your membership online as soon as possible! Renewing members do not need to complete another application unless you need to update any of the information.


  • Congratulations to our newly elected Officers: President Becky Floyd, 2nd Vice President Kim Mabon, and Secretary Leanna Griffin will be installed at the January 2, 2024 Board Meeting.

  • Thank you to Becky Floyd for donating the funds for and preparing the annual Christmas and Holiday Card.

  • Thank you to Laureen P., Alex and Lori Alarcon, and Leanna Griffin for donating the remaining funds we needed for the sink installation project that we have been working on for so long!

  • Life Member, Diane Archuleta, leads free adaptive art classes for adults with developmental disabilities on Tuesdays 10:00am-12:00pm at the Corona Public Library. Diane needs your help! If you can volunteer some time to help her run these art classes, just show up when you can.

Reminders...

  • We are closed for the Holidays until January 5th, 2024.

  • Our Next General Meeting will be January 9th, at 6pm in the Gallery. (General meetings are always the 2nd Tuesday of the month).

  • Take-In for the January "Pets art show is Jan. 12-14. Please pick up your artwork this weekend even if you aren't entering the show.

  • Have a picture or print that would be perfect if it were only matted and framed? We offer custom mat cutting to members and the public at very competitive pricing! Check out the info on our website: https://www.coronaartassociation.org/mat-cutting

  • Our Gallery Gift Shop is stocked with CARDS, GIFTS and DECOR! All handcrafted by CAA member artists. A portion of the proceeds supports our community arts mission! You can shop in person Friday and Saturday 12-4pm, and Sunday 2-4pm.
