"Botanicals" Art Show Winners, Recent Events, Coming Attractions

Congratulations to the winners of the "Botanicals" art show! Below is preview of the awardees, but you can get a closer look here. All of the artwork entered will be shared on Instagram and Facebook over the next several weeks, but of course, you can always come into the gallery to view them in person! All the artwork from this show will be available for viewing until July 9th when they must make room for our next show... "Day at the Beach!" Viewing is always free and open to the public during regular business hours.

Speaking of business hours... for the time being, and we hope it is temporary, we will only be staffing the gallery on Fridays and Saturdays 12-4pm. However, appointments can be made if you want to come another time, just email us: admin@coronaartassociation.org

If you need a reason to eat out tomorrow, please consider going to Miguel's Jr. at their Westend Corona location. We're having a fundraiser on Wednesday, May 31. Show them this photo when you order!

Recent Events:

We wrapped up our Spring Youth art classes funded by the Ruth and Joseph C. Reed Foundation for the Arts. These classes were taught be CAA members Kathryn Duncan and Christine Bozar.

CAA awarded $1000 from the Maxine Piester Memorial Scholarship fund to Santiago High School Graduate, Mackenzie Bigler, who will be studying photography at Cal Baptist University in the Fall. Mackenzie and her family joined us at our May 9th General Meeting to receive her award. Then on May17th, CAA members Laureen Pedroza and Karla Barney attended Santiago's Awards Night to celebrate Mackenzie's accomplishment among her peers.

CAA members Karla Barney and Denise Rowan helped kids create art at the YMCA Healthy Kids event held on April 29th, and Karla and family, along with Paula Munoz, hosted our face painting and tattooing booth at Day of the Child on on April 22. Karla ALSO supplied an art activity for the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) event for Pre-K and Kinder students held at Norco Intermediate on April 27th! Karla is a busy gal, but she loves it!

On May 6th we held CAA member Lori Alarcon's 2022 Artist of the Year celebration. Thank you to everyone who came out and the folks who brought the food and refreshments.

On May 27th, CAA members Becky Floyd, Karla Barney, Laureen Pedroza, and Amelia Nieves, represented the Corona Art Association as Bronze Sponsors of the Lake Norconian Club Foundation benefit to save and restore this historically and artistically important landmark. The event was inspired by "Lucy and Desi's Club Babalu" and we had a blast! If you don't know about the Lake Norconian Club, please learn about it here and why it is so important to our local heritage and future.

On April 27th, CAA member Kim Mabon hosted a Creative Paint Night painting wine glasses for a packed house! And on April 29th CAA member Becky Floyd taught Intro to Stained Glass in which participants made stained glass lemon sun catchers. Both Kim and Becky regularly teach classes and workshops at CAA.

Our first Spring Arts and Crafts Fair held on April 15 and 16th was a great success! We had a couple hundred guests come through our doors who bought art and bake sale items, and kids who created crafts including tissue paper sun catchers and sidewalk chalking. Thank you to the CAA members who participated: Becky Floyd, Laureen Pedroza, Karen Runion, Sonia Sleeger, Denise Rowan, Christine Bozar, and Chris Frausto. Plus Karla Barney and family, Leanna Griffin and anyone else I might have missed, for helping out. Let's do it again next year!

At our May 9th General Meeting, ceramicist and new CAA member Monica Vincent, regaled us with her fascinating journey from hobbiest to entrepreneur. We hope Monica will be offering some clay classes in the near future!
